The Tricolored Heron was visible at various points in the marsh throughout the morning.

The Ospreys were off and on the nest platform. At one point they made a big show of copulating  but it didn't look like anything really happened. I think they are still teen-agers and  fooling around with this stuff. We'll
see if they produce any young this year.

Many birds were in the breeding mood. Willets in particular were super-excited, with one  circling the marsh and calling for 5 - 10 minute stretches. Mochingbirds, cabirds,  sharp-tailed sparrows, Song Sparrows, Yellow Warblers, Warbling Vireos and Willow Flycatchers  were all in full territorial song mode.

The only migrants observed were shorebirds, and the only significant flock was approx. 70  Black-bellied Plovers roosting on the marsh grass at the edge of Belle Isle Creek at high  tide. They were flushed by a cruising
Peregrine. This is usually peak migration week for a  lot of shorebirds, so please be on the lookout for other flocks moving through the marsh.
