2007.03.04  Belle Isle Marsh

8:30 - 11 am

Soheil Zendeh

High tide: 11:35 am

Sky: Sunny, clear

Temperature: 42°F (5°C)

Wind: w 10 - 15 mph (16 - 24 kph)

Visibility: excellent

Notes: stiff wind today. A couple of boards in the marsh were free of ice, with one densely populated underneath with amphipods.  I didn't expect much in the way of passerines today, seeing that the previous few days had been so cold. The Ruby-crowned Kinglet was a real surprise.

Met George Cumming photographing in the marsh. He stated that he's seen eider in Belle Isle creek near the Saratoga Street Bridge. That is the site of a known mussel bed. It's also a first eider record for Belle Isle.
